Hayfever - Blink’s Top Tips

Lots of people experience red, itchy eyes from a condition known as Allergic Conjunctivitis (Hayfever eyes) which can be triggered by pollen, dust, fur, makeup, and other allergens.

When these allergens come into contact with your eyes, it can lead to inflammation of the conjunctiva which causes discomfort and irritation. Symptoms may include redness, itching, watery discharge, and swollen eyelids. It can happen at any time of the year but is more common in the spring and summe because the air is full of pollen.

Here are our top tips to help you combat those pesky Hayfever eyes...

😎 Grab your sunnies! Wear sunglasses when you're outdoors - wraparound styles offer more protection from pollen

💦 Rinse your eyes regularly with a dedicated eye wash to remove dust and pollen from the surface of your eyes

😍 Try a cold compress - a cool, damp cloth placed over your eyes which can help reduce swelling and soothe irritation

❄️ Try using eye drops that have been cooled in the fridge - this can help reduce inflammation

🕔 If you can, avoid going out in the early evening and mid morning as this is when pollen count is highest

🪟 Close windows and keep surfaces clear with a damp duster to reduce pollen indoors

If you wear contact lenses you may want to consider switching to daily disposables for a while to avoid the allergy-causing debris that can accumulate on lenses from day-to-day.
