Children’s Eyecare

Give your children the gift of clear vision

Children’s eyecare is an important aspect of their overall health and well being and good vision is essential in childhood development.

Research has shown that one in five school children have an undetected eye problem. A child may not realise their vision is not clear, therefore regular eye examinations are recommended for all children under the age of 16 at least once a year

Signs to look out for:

  • Screws eyes up when looking at something

  • Reports frequent headaches

  • One eye turning in, out, up or down

  • Rubs eyes or blinks more rapidly

  • Avoids doing close tasks - reading, writing or drawing

  • Difficulty catching a ball

  • Struggling at school

Children should have had a basic screening check at nursery, prior to starting school, but it is recommended they should have a full NHS eye examination too. The earlier a problem is detected, the more effectively it can be treated.

We can adapt our test and use pictures rather than letters if your child is too young to read a letter chart. We can use a range of techniques and modern equipment to detect visual problems at any age. We try to make the experience as enjoyable as possible, without the child feeling like they are having an ‘examination’.

Eye examinations are free on the NHS and if a child is found to need spectacles, a contribution is provided by the NHS. At Blink, we stock a wide range of frames specially designed for children’s faces to choose from. We also offer a large choice of frames for older children and teenagers - and this can be from our budget range right through to designer spectacles. We also offer blue light coatings on spectacle lenses to help with visual comfort for screen usage.

Regular eye examinations could be crucial for your child’s health care and personal development, so don’t delay and contact us at Blink for an appointment.
